It was just over a month ago, I sent my first president’s letter to the newsletter team in anticipation of an exciting spring. While most of it is still relevant, I regret to have to inform you that due to the COVID-19 crisis our Spring Conference is cancelled. Rather, we are in a period of holding and hope to be able to offer you a similar program of protecting and managing groundwater resources in urban environments for our fall meeting date of November 12th, 2020. More details will come.
I would like to thank the newsletter team (Sharon Kroening, Andrew Streitz, Jane de Lambert, Joy Loughry, Erik Tollefsrud, and Matt Meyer) for their efforts in the transition to a web-based format for the newsletter. Thank you to Sean Hunt from the Management team and Anneka Munsell and Ole Olmanson for sharing your time and skills in this process. As my predecessor Kate Pound has championed, access and visibility to the greater community are important and will keep us relevant. Change can be hard, but at least you won’t need to hunt for the rest of my message as part of the “to be continued on page 4”.
For leading us in 2019, our thanks and gratitude are extended to Kate. The conferences she organized on Glacial Sediments and Communicating Groundwater Science last year had overwhelmingly positive feedback. I look forward to working with you on the board one more year, Kate. I would like to welcome our newest board members; president-elect Tony Runkel and secretary Michael Ginsbach. As well as thank our outgoing past-president Ellen Considine and secretary Andrew Retzler for their diligent work. The continued services of Vanessa Baratta, as Treasurer, are also greatly appreciated. In fact, thank you to all who have served on MGWA or MGWAF boards in the past. Interrupting your personal and occupational lives to support something in which you believe is commendable. This organization exists because of your efforts and the continued support of our members. If you are thinking about serving, please contact a board member and ask them about how you can join and keep our organization strong into the coming decade. When a call for nominations comes out, take advantage of it. Now more than ever, we value your support. Please keep your membership support coming in so we can continue to fund the work that we do and the awards and scholarships we offer.
I hope that you are healthy, safe and well in these challenging times.
