Britt Gangeness from the MPCA and Kevin Kuehner from the Minnesota Department of Agriculture recently launched a new set of karst educational tools: videos, animations, and infographics that bring to life the geology and groundwater movement unique to southeast Minnesota. The karst region of southeastern Minnesota features rolling hills, hollows, caves, sinkholes, and dramatic bluffs and valleys. This porous topography makes it challenging to protect the area’s water resources. Contaminants can quickly find routes from the surface into groundwater. Check out these karst educational tools: MPCA’s karst educational materials and MDA’s Southeast Minnesota Groundwater video series on YouTube.
