Private well owners are encouraged to take advantage of a free nitrate well testing clinic happening April 7th–11th at multiple locations. The event, organized by the Rum River Watershed Partnership, provides an opportunity for private well owners to test their drinking water for nitrates—a contaminant that can pose serious health risks. Nitrates in drinking water are colorless, odorless, and tasteless, making regular testing essential. High nitrate levels can interfere with the blood’s ability to carry oxygen, especially affecting infants and pregnant women. Long-term exposure has also been linked to certain cancers and thyroid conditions. Bring in a water sample to test for nitrate levels in your drinking water and ensure it is healthy for consumption.
How to Participate:
To have your water tested, simply bring in a sample to any participating location during event hours the week of April 7th. Residents are encouraged to test all wells on their property and may bring multiple samples for testing.
