Minnesota Public Radio (MPR) recently published several articles on nitrate concentrations in Southeastern Minnesota’s groundwater. An article published in October titled “Southeast Minnesota struggles for common ground on nitrate pollution as health worries rise“ gave an overview of the nitrate issue in the groundwater in this part of the state. In November, MPR published an article titled “EPA says ‘further actions’ needed to protect human health from nitrate in southeast Minnesota” which discussed the November 3rd letter from the US Environmental Protection Agency to the MDH, MDA, and MPCA commissioners on further actions to safeguard public health due to nitrate contamination. The most recent article, titled “State agencies pledge new steps to reduce nitrate in southeast Minnesota”, was published on December 1st, and discussed some efforts that are in place to reduce nitrate concentrations in this region’s groundwater.
