The MGWA Fall Conference was held at the Heritage Center of Brooklyn Center on November 14th, 2023. The conference theme was the Safe Drinking Water Act, a Federal law that was passed almost 50 years ago in 1974, to protect public health by regulating the nation’s public drinking water supplies. The conference began with an overview of this groundbreaking legislation followed by discussions on the state’s wellhead protection and county geologic atlas programs, focusing on how these important programs have evolved over time. Other topics presented at the conference included technical and policy challenges for sustainable water supplies in the Twin Cities metropolitan area, private domestic drinking water supply issues, an overview on the state’s approach to managing non-community water supplies, PFAS contamination in the eastern Twin Cities metropolitan area, microbes in the groundwater, and incorporation of unregulated contaminant monitoring into Minnesota’s public water supply programs. This is the link to all of the conference presentations.
